international day of non-violence 2025

On October 2, 2025, Ready for Development (RfD) and JESUIS hosted a virtual webinar entitled “Cultivating Peace: Building Resilient Communities for Sustainable Development,” to mark the International Day of Non-Violence.

Two insightful presentations framed the discussions of the day:

1. Non-Violence in Everyday Life: From Homes to Communities, Presented by OBIA MBONI Bryan, Executive Director of RfD.

Mr. Bryan highlighted the importance of adopting non-violence as a lifestyle and mindset. He emphasized that individuals must initiate non-violence and extend it to their families, workplaces, and communities. He maintained that respect, empathy, and dialogue foster peaceful coexistence and referred to the home as the first school of peace. He urged participants to actively practice non-violence in their daily interactions to build resilient communities.

2. Non-Violence and the SDGs – Pathways to Resilient and Inclusive Societies, Presented by Dominique Mieguim, Executive Director of JESUIS.

Mrs. Mieguim explored the links between non-violence and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She explained how peace and non-violence lay the foundation for inclusive growth, reduce inequalities, and promote resilient societies. She stressed the importance of forming partnerships, engaging youth, and driving community actions to embed non-violence in development strategies.

The webinar ended with a call to action urging all participants to become ambassadors of non-violence in their daily lives and spheres of influence.

THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF GIVING BACK

Recently, we spoke with students of Fobang Institutes for Innovations in Science and Technology (FINISTECH) about the transformative power of giving back.

We explored the various ways through which the students could connect to causes they care about, gain unique skills, and broaden their perspectives about life.

It was proven that people who regularly invest their time and resources in causes they are passionate about develop a sense of purpose and fulfilment. They gain practical experience and exposure while connecting with like-minded individuals from diverse backgrounds committed to creating a lasting impact.

We concluded that donating is a powerful and transformative act that one can never regret, as it benefits both the donor and the community economically, socially, and politically.

ZERO DISCRIMINATION: FOSTERING INCLUSIVE COMMUNITIES

On the 1st of March 2024, Ready for Development joined the International community to observe Zero Discrimination Day. The organization engaged in a meaningful talk with students of Light Word Anglo-Saxon College in Nsimalen, Center Region of Cameroon. The discussion aimed to raise awareness, promote empathy, and encourage proactive measures to eliminate discrimination in our communities.

The RfD team began by defining discrimination and exploring its various forms, including racial, gender, religious, and socioeconomic discrimination. Understanding the breadth of discrimination helped set the stage for a comprehensive discussion.

After exploring some of the impacts of discrimination on individuals and societies, students actively shared their anecdotes and perspectives, fostering a sense of shared responsibility. This practical approach helped students connect theoretical concepts to tangible and relatable situations.

It was noted that encouraging open dialogue and challenging stereotypes are effective strategies for creating inclusive environments. The students pledged to foster a world where everyone is treated with respect, love, and dignity. At the end of the discussions, the School Principal, Mr. SHUMBE Eugene NGWA declared the creation of an RFD Club in the School.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT &  MENTAL HEALTH

On the 7th of December 2023, Ready for Development talked with students of Collège Privé Laic Fapo, on the importance of community development and mental health. During discussions, it was noted that young people possess unique perspectives, energy, and creativity that can drive positive change and nurture a culture of civic engagement.

The students were encouraged to take part in community development initiatives and to develop a sense of social responsibility by participating in community projects, volunteering, and advocating for important causes.

Towards the end of the talk, the students were enlightened on the importance of mental health and well-being in school. Academic materials were handed to the school administration to promote education. Special thanks to the school administration for the warm welcome and to our partner Wem'Afrika for their technical support.

the importance of education

On November 3rd, 2023, Ready for Development (RfD) and Wem’Afrika paid a courtesy visit to Princess Bilingual Primary School situated in Olembe in the center region of Cameroon. The visit aimed to celebrate the girl child and reiterate the value of education.

In his allocution, the Founding President of Ready for Development acknowledged the challenges and inequalities that many girls face but also highlighted the progress that has been made in empowering them globally.

He further noted that education is the passport to the future and that learning is a beautiful thing to do at this stage. He called on the pupils to believe in themselves and their abilities and to continuously strive for excellence. He urged them to respect their teachers, parents, and institutions, and to be ambassadors of peace in their communities.

He also used the opportunity to congratulate the school teachers and encouraged them to remain dedicated and models to their learners. Towards the end of the event, some academic materials were donated to underprivileged pupils and the school administration to enhance the teaching and learning process.

Special thanks to Honorable Madam Kamdem Julienne, Founder of Princess Bilingual Primary School, and the entire school administration for the warm welcome.
